In May 2009, Rebecca from Melbourne came into hospital here while on holidays, and suddenly, rapidly and unexpectedly delivered later that evening. My prognosis for baby M. was initially guarded for she was only 25 weeks gestation, but her fighting personality was obvious from the start.
Below is an e-mail from her father showing her miraculous development. For all involved in her delivery, I will pass on any news via this site.

Dear Dr Pearse,
By way of re-introduction my wife (Rebecca XXXXXX) and myself
(Michael) met you on the xxx May 2009 in Wangaratta Hospital.
When we first met we thought that Rebecca was having a fairly
standard occurance of bleeding during her pregnancy, as history will
have itour baby daughter Mxxx was born that same day
approximately 15 weeks premature or at 25.3 weeks gestation.
You will be glad to hear that Mxxx is now 41 weeks corrected age
and doing as well as she possibly can be doing. The road has been
very bumpy and we have been driven to within inches of insanity
over the past 16 weeks, however it appears that we will get our little
girl home without any obvious complications.
Mxxx's story is truley amazing and her fight to survive and make it to where she is now is an absolute testiment to yourself and the other staff at Wangartta Hospital.
Mxxx is still in the Mercy Hospital and has captured the imaginations
of many of the nursing and hospital staff with her placid nature,
fighting spirit and unbelievable achievements. The Mercy staff have
told us that Mxxx is the 1st 25 week baby to be born outside the
Mercy Hospital that has actually survived, so she is truely special.
We have been told that Mxxx's success is largely due to the great
work that the staff at Wangaratta Hospital did in the first few hours of
her life. Rebecca and I are so greatful and truely indebted to
yourself, the peadiatricians, the midwife (Catherine)and nursing staff
at the hospital that helped our girl through these critical moments of
her life.
We cannot wait to bring Mxxx up to Wangaratta to visit you all, I
have attached a photo of her taken a day after birth and then a week
ago so you can see her progression. Please pass this message
on to any of the hospital staff that may be interested in hearing about
Mxxx's fortunes.
It would be fantastic to hear back from you and arrange a time to
bring Mxxx up for a visit. We hope to be out of hosptial in the next
few weeks. Mxxx is now just trying to master feeding off Bec and
although it seems slow and protruded we are getting there inch by
inch. After all of the hurdles that she has overcome I am sure that
feeding will happen in due course.
All the best.
